We’re embarking on a Food Journey around here. One that allows for old favorites, but also some healthier versions of the oldies as well as new kinds of foods in which we’ve not been as interested. And simpler ones! I’ve been finding articles on good nutrition and good recipes. Some healthy ones and some naughty bad ones, if you’re wanting to stay away from sugar, chocolate and lots of yummy things. We’ll explore and have fun and learn along the way, if any of you are interested. Just let us know here at Goodness Matters.
Betty Crocker and I became friends many years ago. Although my copy of the book is dog eared half to death, has been caught on fire- Yes. Caught on fire. By me. And survived the fire. It has spills of all sorts and looks pretty sad. But it helped me add to my young married years of cooking skills.
Coming from a family of Southerners with Italian bloodlines, you can imagine the cooking frenzies. And recipes? Ppfffhhht. Never.
- It was a little of this and a little of that.
- You cook it Til It’s Done.
- You learn by watching and then by doing.
- You Just Know when it’s Ready.
- You Can Tell By the Smell.
This was all good. But I needed a bit more structure when I began cooking in my own kitchen. So I did the cookbook thing.
In a big way. You should see my baker’s rack. And the cabinet above the fridge. And a shelf on a bookcase in the basement. I’ve gathered a lot of ’em. Together with real recipes, and inherently-imprinted-in-my-mind meals, I have loved cooking for decades and decades.
My oldest, Andrea, is an amazing cook. Better than me. She must be more Italian. Or more Southern. In any case, can she make a meal! All three of my boys [okay- now they’re men] love to cook. We had lots of fun times in the kitchen while they were growing up. Now, it pays extra dividends for their own families, and for me and hubby when we’re invited to eat with them!
Today, I have a few delicious recipes you can check out. Not from my kitchen, but they have been added to the recipe box.
It’s Treat Share day
Oh. My. Goodness. It’s like Food Heaven! Three treats you may like follow.
ONE. This is one of those special somethings to bring a smile to your family’s face as well as your own. Just as important as the smiles is the taste.

TWO. This next one is good. Good for ya. Good, healthy ingredients. Not even any sugar! And really tasty! Try it sometime and you can eat a treat without feeling guilty. Or sneak one in on the kids, cause they won’t believe it’s actually good for them… Tastes too yummy.
Fruit, Nuts and Oats Treats
THREE. I’m not even going to think about calories. Or sugar. Or all the other stuff that is supposed to be bad for you which-to some of us- is why it tastes so good. It’s all good as long as health permits. Also it rates approved for when you severely need a personal Pick Me Up. Or a family or friend celebration. Or because it’s Tuesday. 🙂

Okay. No more for today. I’m salivating, and have to head for the kitchen. There are things to create and calories to consume.
